GAMEMAKER
FOR DEVELOPERS BY DEVELOPERS
How I created an entire 30 spread magazine advertised towards gamers, and game developers.
Deliverables: 26-30 fully designed, cohesive spreads. Custom logomark / masthead. Full branding system. 5-7 articles. 6-8 advertisements with unique branding.

Logo
Iterations
I had to come up the name as well as the wordmark itself, and it took a while before I was able to settle on anything concrete. These are the many fonts, and names, I tested for the logo.

MASTHEAD
I ended up settling on "Stretch Pro" a font that felt like it could be printed on a dramatic action-packed video game, while still holding professionalism and trustworthiness. I knew that I had to use it. To make the magazine look original, I took the K from the word "Maker" and designed an exaggerated silhouette of a generic game controller. This design choice gave me the opportunity to create a border around the design, using the wire from the controller, making it feel more balanced, and strong. This design also made me think of the sticker seal approval video game cases get when they win awards, which is a detail that my target audience could pick up on, making this logo memorable for people "in the know."
Low/Mid Fidelity
I started by hand sketching over 100 extremely rough layouts, and then vectorized 20 in Illustrator.
I learned what looked satisfying, and what wasn't working very quickly, and was able to get to work soon after.
